Purchase boasts a student body of approximately 4,200 students representing 39 states and 33 countries, who either live on or commute to the 25-building, 500-acre campus in Westchester County, 25 miles north of Manhattan. Our talented student dancers, musicians, actors, writers, and artists showcase their work not only in Westchester, but also in New York City, Los Angeles, and abroad. Purchase College is in the top tier among public baccalaureate institutions in the nation for the number of psychology and biology graduates who receive doctorates. Purchase College's four renowned arts programs function collaboratively as the School of the Arts. Humanities and science programs, both traditional (for example, pre-med) and interdisciplinary (for example, environmental studies) are administered within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The colleges newest unit, "Film and Media Studies" includes programs (for example, new media) that encourage students to take courses across areas and schools. Each students academic career culminates in a senior project that takes the form of a research project, scholarly thesis, exhibition or performance. Whether a day, evening, part-time, or weekend student, the wide array of courses and access to faculty creates ample opportunities to meet individual needs and objectives.
