University of Puget Sound

A nationally acclaimed residential liberal arts college in the economically vibrant and beautiful Pacific Northwest, the University of Puget Sound is committed to the unfolding of useful and creative lives. We believe that an education is not something you get but something you do. Included in the book Colleges That Change Lives, Puget Sound realizes this mission through three key assets: a talented and committed faculty that works closely with students and with each other across disciplines; an economically vibrant and creative urban location in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Northwest (a gateway to the Pacific Rim with easy access to the opportunities of Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver B.C.); and a diverse and energetic group of 2,650 intellectually curious students from across the country and around the globe. With more than 50 traditional and interdisciplinary areas of study, students pursue studies in fields such as Asian languages and cultures, biochemistry, environmental policy and decision making, gender studies, global development studies, international political economy, music, business and leadership, neuroscience, and more. Supported by top-rated facilities on a friendly, down-to-earth and literally evergreen Tudor-Gothic campus, what happens here is this: we live in the real world, and we try to make it better. We offer hundreds of internships (such as ESPN, Euro Disney, Microsoft); study abroad in more than 40 countries (such as Botswana, China, Hungary, India, Vietnam, and our own full-year Pacific Rim program); and research experiences starting on day one (recent topics: war tourism, cancer detection, Pleistocene lava flows, human brain structure, Mozart). Our work is interdisciplinary (like life), reflective (like life), and immediately applicable. A few places where our recent graduates now work include Amazon, AmeriCorps, Apple, Boeing, Credit Suisse, Google, Microsoft, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Public Radio, Peace Corps, Seattle Mariners, Teach for America, and Walt Disney Internet Groups. Our graduates earn prestigious fellowships (Fulbright, Rhodes, Watson) and go on to graduate programs in education, law, medicine, and more.
