The university's WestStar Leadership Program, with 769 alumni, offers extended educational and professional networking opportunities to business, education and government leaders from the 21-county West Tennessee area. The Ned Ray McWherter Institute pairs selected students with faculty mentors to promote individual personal and professional growth before entering the work world. Recognized among the safest public university campuses in Tennessee, the main campus provides a "total collegiate experience" in a traditional university setting. The main campus includes 48 academic and support buildings, including University Village Phase I, a 400-bed campus apartment complex, and University Village Phase II, which features apartment-style housing. The 96,000-square-foot Student Recreation Center, modern bookstore and dining facilities, a new Office of Career Planning and Development, Living Learning Communities, and a new press box and academic space in Hardy M. Graham Stadium that opened in fall 2016 are among the many campus amenities and features. Next to the 250-acre main campus, 680 acres of agricultural land serve as a research and demonstration operation.The university competes in NCAA Division I in both men's and women's athletics and is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. The women's basketball team won three consecutive outright league titles from 2014 to 2016, the women's tennis team earned a share of the 2016 regular-season championship, and the men's golf team won its first-ever OVC golf championship in 2016. The football team earned its third consecutive Sgt. Alvin C. York Trophy in 2016, which goes to the winner of the quadrangular season series among OVC schools located in Tennessee. The men's basketball team appeared in its second consecutive OVC tournament championship game in 2017. Also, the UT Martin rodeo team, the only collegiate rodeo team in Tennessee, is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The men's team won the 2014 national college rodeo championship.
